Jakarta Partners with Five Satellite Cities for Greater Jakarta Connected Initiative

The Jakarta government and five agglomeration cities—Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, South Tangerang, and Bekasi—have agreed to establish a partnership titled 'Greater Jakarta Connected: Connecting Cities, Connecting Cultures.'

We are very keen to develop this grand concept

The signing of the Cooperation Agreement (PKS) took place at the Raden Saleh Pavilion, Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM), Menteng, Central Jakarta, Thursday (7/30).

Jakarta Vice Governor Rano Karno stated that urban development inevitably impacts culture, often causing it to erode over time. He noted, Betawi culture is also present in neighboring agglomeration cities such as Depok and Bekasi.

"We are very keen to develop this grand concept. I certainly hope this cooperation is more than just a signature on a piece of paper; there must be something concrete that we design immediately," he emphasized.

By 2027, Jakarta will reach its 500-year milestone, and plans for the celebrations are already being mapped out. Consequently, collaboration with the surrounding buffer zones is essential.

"Jakarta and its agglomeration are interdependent," he asserted.

Further, he emphasized that his administration is working to hammer out initiatives that offer a win-win for all parties.

"May this joint effort elevate the Betawi cultural ecosystem, allowing it to thrive as an adaptive, inclusive, and sustainable heritage," he added.

Jakarta Cultural Agency Head, Miftahulloh Tamary added that as Jakarta approaches its quincentennial (500th anniversary) in 2027, his agency aims to ensure that the city’s progress moves in tandem with the reinforcement of its identity and culture.

According to him, Jakarta and its surrounding agglomeration form an interconnected region bound by shared cultural roots, particularly Betawi culture.

"Today, we are continuing the Greater Jakarta Connected program, which was initiated in 2025, as a tangible step toward inter-regional collaboration," he emphasized.
